Affective Computing
The interesting field of affective computing is the interdisciplinary field between computer science, phycology, culture computing, language, and pragmatic studies, and even engineering. This is a very interdisciplinary study. What we are trying to do is to come out with machine interfaces that can think with emotion and they try to sense and respond. This is what we called a central response system.
Affective Computing Loop
To do that affective computing we need to complete the affective computing loop. Besides the precondition by using some kind of sensory machine which tries to understand people’s emotions, special emotions, voice, gait, and gestures, we use a sensor or certain input system to understand to recognize that expression, and then the user algorithm will actually adapt to this. Then once this emotion is understood and recognized by the system, the system would try to retain the appropriate emotion.
Add Modalities that We Use
Modalities are input systems. The input that we use to try detects expression. We can use face because face is the best tool to tell emotions. We use facial recognition systems and voice recognition systems. Another good input is voice, gesture, movement, and gait. Gait is the way that we walk or pattern of walking. Using gait we can know people from different cultures. Then, text, this is what is known as sentiment analysis, this is what we do when we analyze the sentiment from social media, for example, Facebook and Twitter.
