
Training of Trainer Introduction to Telecom Infra Project Community Laboratory and Open RAN

Telecom Infra Project (TIP) in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has organize Training of Trainer (TOT) activity which was held online for 2 (two) days on March 16-17th , 2022 through the Zoom meeting room. This training was attended by the representatives of government, academia, and industry from The Philippines. This training aims to provides knowledge for prospective trainers or facilitators such as lecturers and professionals who have competencies related to Open RAN, so that they can actively contribute to the development of digital talent in Southeast Asia, especially in The Philippines.
The first day of the TOT event began with a speech by John Garrity as a Chief of USAID Better Access and Connectivity (BEACON), he said “ TOT program will be a history this organization working together. We hope this TOT can support program Open RAN development in The Philippines as a country new transition of 5G. I am so excited for this sharing knowledge between expertise in Indonesia and The Philippines, I wish all participant good learning and training during this event”.
Franz de Leon Director of the Department of Science and Technology – Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) of The Philippines also support this program, “We hope DOST-ASTI and Philippines Universities can take part in this event. We hope this event can be the way for Policy reform to enable the proliferation of Open RAN and other alternative connectivity solution” Said Franz de Leon.
Lia Yuldinawati Director of Strategic Partnership and International Office Telkom University this activity could be the way to improve the human resource and strengthen collaboration. “This TOT is one of the activity to improve the competitiveness of human resources through technological innovation that provide benefit nationally and internationally. This Activity also could be a proof that TIP in South East Asia would encourage people in ASEAN and Asia Pacific country. And we do hope that this moment could be a new door in strengthening International collaboration to increase our contribution to the science and technology development in International level between Telkom University, TIP Community Lab, and other Institution”, Said Lia Yuldinawati.
Bryan Tan Director of Connectivity Ecosystem of Meta Connectivity along with his representative Aulia Velmy hope every participant could enjoy and take a benefit on this activity. “I hope every participant enjoy this event and hopefully this not going stop until here but we can explore a better concrete collaboration in the near future together”, Said Aulia Velmy.
After all the speech, the event were followed by training that presented by Deni Rosiska as Trainer. The TOT activity on the first day closed with an announcement to take a quiz that had to be completed by the participants and the preparations for the second day training.
The second day of the training began with presentations by the representatives of each group with determined topics by the committee. The list of the groups and Topics presented are as follows:
- Group One : Radio Access Network (RAN)
- Group Two : RAN Functional Split
- Group Three : Open RAN
- Group Four : Open RAN. Open a New Horizon
The presentation are required for every group to present the material and Mr. Deni Rosiska as the trainer gave the input and help participants to deliver the material better. The lucky participants who did the presentations were Amielle Dulay from the Samsung R&D Institute Philippines as the representative of Group One, Luis Gabriel Del Rosario from Samsung as the representative of Group Two, Josyl Mariela Reyes from the University of Santo Tomas as the representative of Group Three, and Gregory Cu from the De La Salle University as a representative of Group Four.
Many participants have been considered good in delivering the slide by the trainers, this is proof that many prospective trainers have the potential and are ready to become the next TIP and Open RAN trainers in The Philippines. TIP hopes that in the future the Philippines can become one of the countries that contribute to various activities in collaboration with TIP.
